The HiP Journey so far and roadmap

Join Ben – Chief Operating Officer – as he discusses the HiP roadmap from concept inception through to future product release.

HiP’s journey so far

The first iteration of the HiP concept was conceived over four years ago by Kai Peeters, our CEO and Founder.

At that time the world was only just starting to recover from the financial crisis of 2008 – the catalyst of which was the real estate sub-prime market crash.

As a serial innovator and entrepreneur, Kai was naturally attracted to understanding whether we had learnt from what had gone before and whether the real estate markets had changed as a result.

What Kai discovered was a simple truth – that what was at the very root of the sub prime crash was still very much in evidence – big financial institutions treating real estate (the homes we live in) as an abstract quantity, a set of figures on a spreadsheet. An industry where big money still ruled and where an institutionalised debt culture is still very much embedded in the collective psyche.

A system that served the few and was inaccessible to many

Although he didn’t realize it at the time, what Kai found would be the beginning of a journey. A journey that would reimagine how real estate can be financed  – in a fairer more accessible way through an open ecosystem housing an interactive debt and equity trading exchange.

The Timeline

Some key steps along the way include:

Being  granted world first permissions from the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK. This was after an extensive sandbox application and allows the trading of debt and equity on a contract rather than individual SPV’s – these new regulatory permissions essentially enable scalability to the HiP proposition.

Hiring a core team  – now over 20 people and counting  – of experts in the crypto space, real estate market analysts,  a team to build the trading exchange, a full in house marketing and production team – a team structure which enables a product launch towards the end of 2018.

 A series of industry awards have also been won along the way  – including the 2017 Digital Impact award and the 2018 Proptech Innovation award.

The journey has also been a literal one with Kai travelling  the world presenting the HiP philosophy , in 7 countries in 21 days.

Right now we’ve started the private sale of the HiP token, have released the The HiP Whitepaper and have activated our Telegram channel.

And during the next few weeks will be releasing an in depth product prototype, with onboarding of people and properties beginning in October.

Post the token sale the roadmap focuses on developing the product to take it to market by the end of this year.

To conclude

The culmination of this is ultimately developing a concept  that turns how real estate is financed on its head. A concept that democratises real estate ownership, a concept that challenges the current debt culture and a concept that makes real estate more accessible, more flexible and more fluid.

Although HiP is not just about London, this headline tells a sad story. Combined with an average £80,000 debt for University graduates in the UK and we have a major social problem. HiP will help solve this by allowing investors to participate in first time buyers' home ownership, bringing the barriers to entry far lower than ever conceived possible before.

EQUITY RELEASE

To release equity in a property today can only be achieved by either selling it entirely or taking out further debt. Having to pay interest to access wealth that already belongs to you is a deeply flawed model.

HiP will allow people to release equity into their own property bank account on the HiP platform; in multiple currencies and without incurring further debt or moving out of their home.

BUY TO LET LANDLORDS

HiP will allow buy-to-let investors to leverage their entire portfolio to expand their portfolios faster, cheaper and more efficiently.
